Adults
Each year, we offer opportunities for adults in our community to learn more about the Christian faith and to deepen their spiritual life. Below are the most recent offerings. Gatherings occur in our Parish Hall with plenty of space to socially distance following the 9:00 am service.. Please contact the church office for more information (st.stephens1838@gmail.com or 410-721-2881). All are welcome to attend and participate.
Summer 2024
Adult Education Opportunity – SUDDENLY AND UNPREPARED: PLANNING FOR THE END OF THIS LIFE
“From all oppression, conspiracy, and rebellion; from violence, battle, and murder; and from dying suddenly and unprepared, Good Lord, deliver us.” – The Great Litany, p 149 Book of Common Prayer
On June 2nd and 9th, St. Stephen’s will offer an adult education series on “End of Life” issues from an Episcopal and church-centered perspective.
The goal of these workshops is to provide good information and healthy conversation about an often- difficult topic. Topics include medical directives, preparing a will, planned giving, making and funeral arrangements.
Wills and Estate Planning – June 2nd
As our own Book of Common Prayer states: “The Minister of the Congregation is directed to instruct the people, from time to time, about the duty of Christian parents to make prudent provision for the well-being of their families, and of all persons to make wills, while they are in health, arranging for the disposal of their temporal goods, not neglecting, if they are able, to leave bequests for religious and charitable uses.” (BCP p. 445)
A representative from the Anne Arundel County Register of Wills office will be giving a workshop at St. Stephen’s on June 2nd after our 9:00 am liturgy. Their motto, “Your Wish Your Will Your Way”, encourages individuals to prepare a Will to ensure their wishes are carried out.
Funeral Planning – June 9th
Fr. Hailey will conduct a step-by-step review of the Burial Rite in the Book of Common Prayer. This will include a discussion of our theological understanding of death, and the funeral customs of our parish. A Funeral planning form will be presented to assist individuals and families in planning a funeral service.
Program will begin in the Parish Hall following the 9:00 a.m. service
Returning later this summer, we will continue our journey through the television series, The Chosen. After we watch the episode together, we have a discussion for a deeper understanding of Jesus and his followers.
Stay tuned for our next viewing!
